Line 1. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) engineering applications

The Computational Fluid Dynamics is a very powerful tool for the systems analysis, calculation and design, where there are mass, energy and momentum transport. So, it has multiple applications for industry and research. Commercial packs, as ANSYS CFX or FLUENT and open source codes, like OPENFOAM, permit the development of this kind of studies in a quickly and reliable way, saving in time and money for the new product development or optimization of existing systems.

The research group works in engineering problems as:

- Simulation of fuel elements in nuclear reactors.

- Simulation of PWR (Presurized water reactors), BWR (boiling water reactors) and TRIGA (research reactors) reactors.

- Simulation of wind action on external tanks.

- Simulation of bubble column reactors for advanced oxidation process.

Line 2. Preventive and predictive maintenance for industrial plants components

The industrial processes behaviour study by means of different modelization and simulation tools is of special interest for the enhancement of process efficiency. Besides, the design of specific control systems and the correct selection of the associated instrumentation are of interest in this area. The group performs research on different projects, based on the development and application of advanced techniques of signal analysis.

- Detection of incorrect operation of industrial plant sensors.

- Time response calculation for pressure and temperature sensors of Nuclear Power Plants.

- Noise analysis for Nuclear Power Plants.

- Determination of buildings vibrations.

- Characterization of electric motors for preventive maintenance.

- Process control, design of acquisition systems and signal treatment.

- Analysis of electrical signal quality for industrial plants.
