Line 9. Used membranes valorization
Used reverse osmosis membrane modules are removed when the water they produce does not meet the required quality specifications. Currently, it is estimated that between 5,000 and 9,000 membrane modules are generated daily and transformed into waste.
Since 2016 we have been investigating alternatives for the valorization of the modules:
- Based on the oxidation of the active layer of the membrane, with the aim that it can be reused as an ultrafiltration membrane module in other membrane processes.
- Their use as support or barrier materials for other applications
