Line 9. Effluent treatment by means of electrocoagulation

One of the investigation fields of the group is the effluent treatment by means of electrocoagulation. The electrocoagulation is an effective, reliable and profitable technique for the treatment of contaminated wastewaters with heavy metals, including the Cr(VI), without the necessity of chemical agent addition. The electrocoagulation process consists of creating metallic hydroxide flocks within the wastewater by electrodissolution of soluble anodes generally made of iron or aluminium. One research field under investigation nowadays is based on the use of electrocoagulation for the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) in the wastewaters of the industry of chromium-plated and precipitation of the Cr(III).
