Date: 01-03-2018
The rector of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Francisco Mora, and the Councilor of the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), Fernando Castelló, ratified, on February 16th 2015, the collaboration agreement by which the business chair CSN Vicente Serradell was formalized, with an initial duration of one year that continues to be extended until today. The Chair is attached to the Higher Technical School for Industrial Engineers (ETSII), and its head is Gumersindo Verdú, Professor of the Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering and member of the Research Institute of Industrial, Radiophysical and Environmental Safety (ISIRYM).
The objective of the chair is to promote the training of highly qualified professionals in nuclear safety and radiation protection. To this end, the agreement provides, among other activities, the possibility of convening scholarships and predoctoral contracts, inviting international experts to provide additional training at the UPV and subsidize attendance at CSN seminars. In addition, the chair will collaborate in the design and delivery of ongoing training programs and will organize conferences on nuclear safety and radiation protection.
Monitor the radiological quality of the environment
The Nuclear Safety Council is the only competent body in Spain in terms of nuclear safety and radiation protection. It was created in 1980 and, since then, it is responsible for the supervision and control of nuclear and radioactive facilities, as well as for monitoring the radiological quality of the environment in a continuous and real-time manner. The CSN authorizes each nuclear and radioactive installation project, and examines and grants licenses to the people who operate in them. In addition, it is responsible for coordinating a response in the event of a nuclear or radioactive emergency.
